What the Countryside Has to Offer for a Weekend Getaway in the UK

Everybody loves the seaside. Consequently, the countryside is often overlooked as a Weekend Getaway in the UK. But the UK has such beautiful scenery and some of the best of it can be found out in the countryside, away from bustling civilisation, or in small towns that provide a slower pace of life. If you have been feeling overworked or run down, then take a look at these options to lift your spirits. All you have to lose is a weekend and your stress.

The English Countryside

The UK includes Scottland, Wales, and Northen Ireland too, in addition to England. If you live close to London and want a quick getaway, take a look at the best of the English countryside. While there is much that should be preserved of England’s countryside, including monuments and historical sites, minute villages that have not caught up with modern times, quaint pubs, and beautiful scenery, there has been a lot of encroachment due to population growth. Explore those spots in the UK where you will feel the heartbeat of England, such as the Yellow Top Country Park located in Yorkshire and other sites that are perfect for a couples’ retreat or a get-together with old friends.

What Wales Has to Offer

Wales has some of the most stunning coastlines that could make you think you have ended up at some exotic overseas destination instead. However, we went looking inland for the best of the Wales countryside and were not disappointed. The Clwydian Range, found in the northeast of Wales, has seemingly endless rolling hills, farmland, and the open moors. Wye Valley, Monmouthshire, has a beauty and character that has attracted artists and poets. Snowdonia National Park in Northern Wales boasts the towering Snowdon Mountain, and ample forests and lakes. You will also find tiny villages that belong to the past, such as Beddgelert and Betws-y-Coed. Then, there is Brecon Beacons National Park, in the south of Wales. It has the tallest mountains in the UK South, with secret caves, tumbling waterfalls, and primal woodland.

The Scottish Countryside

Everyone has their favourite nature spots and countries, and Scotland just happens to be one of ours. Without mentioning the beaches (seeing as we are looking for spots in the countryside), you will be awed by the huge mountains, thick woodland, and sparkling lochs, created to take your breath away. Whether you visit the lowlands or the Highlands, you will be enchanted. Be sure to look up at the dazzling array of stars when the evenings draw in.

Northern Ireland Countryside

The Northern Ireland countryside is not to be neglected. It has many picturesque villages across its landscapes. Many of these beautiful sites are framed by lovely beaches, but there are also historical landmarks and towns, such as the Giant’s Causeway and the Titanic Museum in Belfast, which are not to be missed. Take a weekend to get to know your countryside whenever you need a getaway in the UK.
