Gone are the days when people would solely rely on 160-minutes-long movies for entertainment. People are addicted to binging on multi-season shows. They are committed to watching them for years if they are worth it. Such is the fan base of series and shows. Everyone I know has been glued to the TV screen to catch the finale of GOT. And my whole family was also inseparable from HBO on Spectrum until the season 8 ended!

Let’s give you some of the best shows to binge on HBO this year! Some of them came up with their finales while others have just debuted.

Top 10 HBO Shows Which You Shouldn’t Miss This Year

1. Game of Thrones
2. Chernobyl
3. The Righteous Gemstones
4. Veep
5. Big Little Lies
6. True Detective
7. Ballers
8. Leaving Neverland
9. Euphoria
10. Sesame Street

Let’s dig a little deeper into what makes these shows binge-worthy.

1. Game of Thrones

For all the seven seasons of GOT, HBO has impressed us with its remarkable storytelling. It wouldn’t be wrong to say that it has created a marvelous and epic medieval fantasy. While presumptive and incestuous highborn’s squabble for power in this medieval realm, a supernatural horde is all set to attack them.

The final season of GOT was premiered on April 2019. Fans were crazily anticipating the end of this amazing show and the expectations were touching the sky. Wondering GOT secures the top spot in our list? Let’s be honest, no matter how disappointed a few of us might have been, we just couldn’t miss it.

2. Chernobyl

The mind-blowing miniseries is based on true events. Brave and heroic men and women work on mitigating the impending catastrophe when a nuclear accident occurred in Nuclear Power Plant in Chernobyl in 1986. The show has only 5 episodes but it features some amazing cinematography. And its eerie background music leaves a serious impact. The escalation of tension and the laborious call of duty was perfectly depicted. A must-watch!

3. The Righteous Gemstones

Premiered on August 18, 2019, committing to this show seems safe. The show revolves around the second generation of the famous Gemstone family, living with grand televangelist traditions. Patriarch Eli is the most responsible person for this megachurch’s unparalleled success. He mourns for his wife and has three children. The eldest, Jesse, wants to follow his father’s footsteps, only to discover his father’s sins, which are jeopardizing their family ministry.

The middle daughter Judy wants to eventually escape the Gemstone compound with her fiancé. And the youngest sibling is Kelvin, a pseudo-hipster. Since only two episodes of the first season have been aired as yet, we still have to discover a lot. But the show does look promising!

4. Veep

The final and 7th Season of Veep premiered on May 2019. Based on the political landscape of America, Veep is pure entertainment. The show may not have gargantuan ratings like the other HBO shows but it continues to feature smart and humorous scripts. It continues to cleverly satirize the American political system. The dialogues have only become more clever and sharper in the finale. Such satire can get an average person on social media reported! A must-watch!

5. Big Little Lies

The season 2 of Big Little Lies just aired. This darkly comedic story of mischief and murder is set in the tranquil town of Monterey. You will explore spouses, siblings, and families with fractured relationships, amidst apparently doting moms, beautiful children, and successful husbands living in stunning homes. The show challenges the social myths about the romanticization and perfection of marriages, friendships, and parenthood.

The star-studded cast is another plus. The mothers of Monterey include Nicole Kidman, Reese Witherspoon, and Shailene Woodley. The show is totally addictive!

6. True Detective

Season 3 of True Detective came in Feb 2019. This crime drama revolves around an Arkansas cop who investigates the baffling disappearance of a girl. Revisiting this 1995 murder case unfolds multiple related deaths in the process. For those who love thrill and crime, this is a must-watch.

7. Ballers

Season 5 of Ballers is on air! We can’t get enough of Dwayne the Rock Johnson who plays Spencer Strasmore in the show. From being a superstar in football, he becomes a successful financial manager of the new players in Miami. The story takes an interesting turn when he builds a client base for young veteran stars and phenomes. His role goes way beyond than financial management. Watch and explore!

8. Leaving Neverland

Leaving Neverland is a 4-hour long documentary, based on the life of the King of Pop, Michael Jackson. HBO created this documentary to expose some of the dark secrets of MJ’s life, which affected the lives of some people. Just like Chernobyl, Leaving Neverland gives you an insight into some shocking true events from the life of this pop star.

9. Euphoria

The Season 1 of Euphoria just ended. It revolves around the troubled life of Rue, a 17-year-old drug addict. She comes straight outta a rehab with no intentions of staying clean. Her circle includes some interesting characters too. The first season has secured great ratings. Viewers can’t wait to watch what happens next in the lives of the characters.

10. Sesame Street

Loved by children and adults alike, Sesame Street is one of a kind show. First aired in 1969, the show is currently running its 49th season. The show has successfully bridged many educational and cultural gaps with its fun content. People have grown old with characters of Big Bird, Cookie Monster, Bert and Ernie, Oscar the Grouch, and so on. They are the best teachers for kids and have taught alphabets, colors, and numbers to generations. The show has the credit of providing valuable learning opportunities.

If you are planning to watch any of these shows, make sure you get HBO on your channel lineup. I have subscribed to one of the Spectrum TV packages that essentially includes HBO in HD in its channel lineup. And I enjoy all these shows with my family in pristine high resolution!
